ICE Fall to Rebels, 2-1

February 28, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Winnipeg Ice News Release

The Rebels got on the board first when Josh Tarzwell was awarded a short handed penalty shot and he snuck it through ICE goaltender Liam Hughes. The short handed penalty shot was the sixth short handed goal the ICE have surrendered this season. The ICE would answer with just under three minutes to play in the period when Jakin Smallwood put home a Nino Kinder rebound to even it up at one after one period of play. The goal was Smallwood's 14th of the season.

The ICE would have plenty of chances in the second period but we unable to capitalize. The ICE outshot the Rebels by a count of 15 to 10 in the second frame to take a 26 to 19 edge in shots into the third period.

Red Deer would take the lead with 2:17 left in the third and put themselves up 2-1 on their 28th shot of the game. It was Ben King who gave the home team the lead and they would not look back. The win for the Rebels evened the season series up at two with the home team winning every game. Liam Hughes made 26 saves in the loss.
