Ice Bears Win on Donahoe's OT Goal

March 25, 2017 - Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) - Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TN Robbie Donahoe scored with 43 seconds remaining in overtime, Brian Billet made 35 saves and the Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Peoria Rivermen 3-2 on Saturday night in front of a honky tonk crowd of 3,836.

Donahoe forced the puck free at the Peoria blue line, skated into the left circle and fired a shot past Storm Phaneuf. Phaneuf replaced Tyler Parks to begin the third period for the Rivermen.

Peoria tallied the only goal of the first period with a redirect from Cody Dion. Alec Hagaman drove the puck down the left wing, halted at the point, chipped it to Michael Colantone in the corner, who fed it to Dave Pszenyczny. Pszenyczny's shot from the high slot went through traffic and was tipped by Dion over Billet's blocker to give the Rivermen the lead.

Knoxville responded in the second by tying the game at 8:03 when Berkley Scott collected a rebound and fired a shot from along the right goal line. The puck deflected off of Parks and into the net. The Ice Bears took the lead with a goal by Scott Witmyer in front of the crease thanks to a slick pass by Evan Neugold through the slot. Neugold assisted on both Knoxville goals in the period

The Rivermen tied the game when Justin Hoomaian weaved along the right goal line and flipped the puck past Billet's glove at 9:11 of the third.
