Ice Bears Power up with 6-3 Victory over Roanoke

Knoxville, TN - Dean Yakura scored a goal to go along with two assists and the Knoxville Ice Bears beat the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs 6-3 on Saturday night at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.

Knoxville has now won two straight. Roanoke had won three straight against Knoxville before Saturday.

Yakura struck first for Knoxville with a low shot that snuck between Matt Zenzola's pads at 11:54 of the first. After two minors less than 30 seconds apart against Roanoke, Knoxville took advantage of the 5-on-3 when Elliot Grauer's wrist shot from the high slot went over Zenzola's glove at 16:30.

Daniel Versace scored on a breakaway and Max Guyon beat Troy Davenport from the right circle with a drag shot to tie the game at two heading into the second intermission.

Knoxville retook the lead when Austin Hervey redirected a shot from the point by Charlie Granath at 2:18 of the third. Marcus Ortiz came out of the penalty box and took the puck in transition in front of the crease and beat Zenzola with a backhand for the eventual game-winner to make it 4-2.

John Gustafsson cut the lead to one with just under six minutes remaining with a wrist shot from the right face-off dot that banked in off the far side post. Knoxville responded 43 seconds later when Berkley Scott fed the puck across the crease where David Brancik was waiting for it to chip the puck into the net, which ended the night for Zenzola. He was replaced by Jacob Caffrey.

Alex Adams scored an empty-netter with less than two minutes remaining to close the scoring. Davenport finished with 34 saves for Knoxville.
