Ice Bears Lose Force Battle with Columbus
Knoxville, TN Corey Hale had a goal and two assists, Jake Rivera and Mark Pustin scored in the shootout and the Knoxville Ice Bears held off Fayetteville's comeback attempt with a 4-3 win Friday night.
Rivera got things going for Knoxville in the shootout when he beat Sean Bonar through his legs. Mark Pustin sniped one blocker side to seal it after Brian Billet stopped Fayetteville's first four penalty shots.
Knoxville scored immediately when Kyle McNeil took a pass down the right wing untouched and ripped a wrister past Bonar from the right circle just 12 seconds into the game. Corey Hale's slap shot from the top of the zone beat Bonar's glove to extend Knoxville's lead. Danny Cesarz made it 3-0 less than ten minutes into the game with a rip from the left circle.
Fayetteville scored on the power play when Joe Kalisz roofed the puck over the left shoulder of Brian Billet to make it 3-1 at the end of the first period. The FireAntz chipped into the lead 5:46 into the second when Bobby Chaumont was left all alone in the slot and his backhand beat Billet to make it a one-goal game.
Jesse Paradis tied the game at 8:22 of the third when he took the puck off a face-off in the Knoxville end and slid a backhand between Billet's pads. Berkley Scott had a chance to win it in regulation with a penalty shot with 2:46 remaining, but his backhand sailed wide of the post
