Hounds Draw University of Charleston (WV), 0-0

February 17, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC played to a 0-0 draw against the University of Charleston (WV) on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.

For the second consecutive game, goalkeepers Ben Lundgaard and Kyle Morton combined for a shutout effort. Lundgaard played the first half with Morton seeing action in the second.

"Today was the toughest opposition we've played, and I think we had the majority of the ball and we played in their half the majority of the game," head coach Bob Lilley said. "I think there were some good things that we can build off of this week. Next week we play Pitt and Bethlehem Steel, and we'll find out a lot more next week when we have those two games."

Kevin Kerr provided the Black and Gold with their best scoring chance of the first half with a blast from inside the penalty box in the 13th minute. A diving save from Charleston's goalkeeper kept things tied at 0-0.

In the 32nd minute, the Hounds had another opportunity. A cross from defender Jordan Dover found the head of Steevan Dos Santos, but the forward placed the ball well over the crossbar.

The second half began the same way the first ended with the Hounds dominating possession, but still unable to score.

Forward Christian Volesky opened up the half with a blast from the halfway line, which sailed over Charleston's cage. Volesky found another chance to break the game open in the 51st minute, but sent a diving header just wide.

Anthony Velarde lofted a corner kick to Volesky in the 86th minute, but once again Charleston's goalkeeper kept the Hounds off the board. The header from Volesky was the final chance for the Hounds on the afternoon.

The Hounds will be back in action against the University of Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. on Friday at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Friday's match is the only preseason contest Riverhounds SC will play away from Highmark Stadium.
