Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (27-17) returned home to split a double header with the Great Lakes Loons (14-29). The Hot Rods took game one by a score of 7-3, and the Loons won game two 3-2.

In game one the Hot Rods got things started quickly when DH Vidal Brujan hit a leadoff single and stole second base. Then 2B Zach Rutherford hit a two run home run that left the ballpark straight down the left field line and the Hot Rods had a 2-0 lead.

Bowling Green added on in the second inning thanks to a two out solo home run off the bat of 1B Jim Haley. In the third the Hot Rods bats stayed hot when LF Moises Gomez hit the third home run of the ballgame to left field to give Bowling Green a 4-0 lead. Then after three straight two out walks Haley stepped up to the plate one again, this time clearing the bases with a triple and the Hot Rods were up on the loons 7-0.

RHP Tobias Myers ran into a bit of trouble in the fifth inning when 1B Mitchell Hansen and 2B Brandon Montgomery hit back to back singles to lead things off. Then CF Brayan Morales was hit by a pitch to load the bases. SS Moises Perez walked and 3B Jared Walker singled home two and the Loons cut the deficit to 7-3

Myers pitch five innings and allowed four hits and three runs, with two walks, and five strikeouts. RHP Tyler Zombro followed in relief recording the last six outs of the ballgame.

In game two the bats were a little quieter for the Hot Rods. Great Lakes struck first in the top of the third inning thanks to a solo home run off the bat of Morales. The Hot Rods responded in the fifth inning when CF Carl Chester hit a one out singled and scored on an error to tie the game at one.

LHP Leo Crawford got the start for the Loons at pitched four innings allowing just three hits while striking out five. RHP Austin Franklin turned in another solid start for the Hot Rods throwing seven innings allowing just six hits and the one run. He walked one and tied a career high in strikeouts with nine.

In extras the Loons got two in the top of the eighth when 2B Marcus Chiu hit a two run home run to lead things off. The Hot Rods scored one in the bottom of the eighth when SS Taylor Walls singled home a run, but that was all the Hot Rods got.

Next up the Hot Rods and Loons go to battle again tomorrow. RHP Alex Valverde (2-1, 4.73) will be on the Hill for Bowling Green and RHP Riley Ottesen (1-3, 8.76) gets the call for Great Lakes. First pitch will be at 6:35pm at Bowling Green Ballpark.
