Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
EASTLAKE, OH - The Bowling Green Hot Rods won the first game of their three game set with the Lake County Captains Friday night by a score of 7-3. DH Brendan McKay had four RBI, and 3B Adrian Rondon had a two-run single in the win.
The game got off to a crazy start, as the Hot Rods appeared to take a 2-0 lead with two outs in the top of the first. SS Zach Rutherford hit a double to left field that scored McKay and C Zac Law, but on appeal, the umpires ruled that one of them missed the third base bag, and the Hot Rods thought they had a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the first.
In the bottom of the inning, 3B Nolan Jones homered off of RHP Tobias Myers to left field, at the time tying the game at one.
Between the bottom of the first and top of the second, the umpires got together and signaled to the press box that the Hot Rods run should be taken off the board, meaning that they ruled McKay missed third base in the first inning. So it was Lake County with a 1-0 lead into the second inning.
Bowling Green responded in the top of the third when McKay came through with his first RBI of the night, scoring RF Emilio Gustave, and the game was knotted at one.
The Captains responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.
In the sixth, with runners on second and third, 3B Adrian Rondon put a ball into right field that scored both Rutherford and LF Moises Gomez, making it 3-2 Bowling Green.
McKay added an RBI single in the seventh, scoring 2B Vidal Brujan and upping the Hot Rods lead to 4-2.
Bowling Green put the game away in the seventh, sending seven batters to the plate, and using three singles to score three times, their 21st multi-run inning of the season. The 7-2 score turned out to be final.
RHP Jhonleider Salinas (2-1, 9.95), a former Cleveland farm hand, earns his second win this season against the Indians' affiliate. He pitched one inning, allowed just one hit, and struck out two. RHP Tobias Myers got the start, and went four innings, allowing four hits and two runs, walking four and striking out four.
Captains' starter LHP Kirk McCarty (0-1, 9.42) took the loss. He tossed five and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and three runs (all earned), walking two and striking out five.
The Hot Rods will look to win the series tomorrow night at 5:30pm Central time. LHP Brendan McKay (0-0, 3.60) will get the start for the Hot Rods, while the Captains will go with RHP Grant Hockin (1-1, 6.00).
