Dayton, Ohio - Bowling Green starting pitcher Mikey York combined with two relievers on a three-hit shutout as the Hot Rods snapped a 10-game losing streak by defeating the Dayton Dragons 6-0. The Dragons lost for just the second time in their last 12 games as they were shutout at home for the first time this season.
York (1-1) tossed six innings, allowing just three base runners on two hits and one walk, and he struck out eight to earn the win.
Bowling Green took the lead with one run in the fourth inning and then added three more in the fifth to extend their lead to 4-0. They closed out the scoring with two runs in the eighth.
Dragons starter pitcher Alex Webb (0-4) was charged with the loss. He worked five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Dauri Moreta replaced Webb and tossed two strong innings, allowing no runs on one hit with four strikeouts. Joel Kuhnel worked the last two innings, allowing two runs on five hits with no walks or strikeouts.
The Dragons three hits including a two-out triple by Michael Beltre in the third inning, a one-out single by Randy Ventura in the sixth, and a two-out single by Hector Vargas in the seventh.
Up Next: The Dragons (27-39, 68-68) host the Hot Rods (37-29, 68-65) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the last game of the three-game series and final home game of the regular season at Fifth Third Field. Tony Santillan (9-7, 3.25) will start for the Dragons against Bowling Green's Adrian Navas (11-9, 4.81).
The Dragons will play at Lansing on Saturday and night and Sunday and Monday afternoons to wrap up the regular season before the playoffs on Wednesday, September 6 at Fifth Third Field against the West Michigan Whitecaps.
