Hooks Wreck Riders

April 21, 2018 - Texas League (TL1) - Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

FRISCO - Corpus Christi notched a season-best 17 hits and paraded 25 men to the plate from fifth through the eighth innings Friday night, downing the RoughRiders 11-3 before an announced crowd of 9,060 at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Hooks' 2-3-4 hitters, Stephen Wrenn, Yordan Alvarez, and Taylor Jones, combined to go 8-for-14 with seven runs scored and seven RBIs. Second baseman Ryne Birk added a five-hit performance.

Each man in Corpus Christi's lineup reached base Friday night, besting four Frisco (3-11) pitchers. Ryne Slack was the lone home hurler to escape unscathed.

The Hooks (8-6) went 7-for-13 with runners and second and third, maintaining their season average of .315 with men in scoring position, which tops the Texas League.

Lefty Ryan Hartman (1-0) scattered four singles over his first five innings of work. Hunter Cole's three-run home run to left field in the sixth accounted for the RoughRiders' offense.

Kevin Hill earned the three-inning save by retiring nine of the 10 men he faced.

Corpus Christi took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Alvarez and Jones.

Alvarez's opposite-field, three-run two bagger bankrolled the Hooks five-spot in the fifth.

Corpus Christi salted the win by scoring five times in the seventh and eighth. Brik capped each inning with an RBI single.

Myles Straw reached base twice, cracked a sac fly, and extended his hit streak to eight games.

Jones is 5-for-7 with four runs, two doubles, a home run, four RBIs, and two walks in the first two games of the series.

The Hooks, who have won six of their last eight games, aim for a series victory Saturday night with Akeem Bostick on the hill. First pitch is 7:05.
