Honkers Sign Three Position Players out of Oregon State
Three Beavers Become Honkers for the Summer
(Rochester Minn.) - The Rochester Honkers have announced the signings of Oregon State Beavers trio Andy Armstrong, Alex McGarry and Preston Jones.
Armstrong is a 5-foot-9 sophomore infielder. During his freshman year he appeared in 19 games with eight starts. He hit .286 with one double and four RBIs. Armstrong is a native of Salem, Ore. He was named first team all-state his senior year of high school.
McGarry is a sophomore first baseman at Oregon State. He began his college career at Tacoma Community College. The 6-foot-2 Vancouver, Wash. native hit .393 over 25 games. He drove two home runs and had 27 RBIs. McGarry led Tacoma in hits, RBIs and walks. He set the single season hits record at Columbia River High School
Jones is a center fielder and like McGarry is from Vancouver Wash. He hit .333 over the course of his freshman year with three doubles, a triple and four runs driven in. The 5-foot-11 sophomore played in 30 games and started five. He scored a game winning run from second on a wild pitch against Arizona. Jones has a brother named PJ who has played in the Seattle Mariners organization.
Oregon State, ranked second in the USA Today Coaches Poll, kicks off their season on February 16th in Surprise Arizona for the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic with games against New Mexico, Gonzaga, and Cal Poly San Louis Obispo.
The Rochester Honkers 25th season begins on Tuesday, May 29th when the team hosts the Eau Claire Express in their home opener at Mayo Field at 7:05 pm. 5-Game Packs and Kids Club Memberships are available now! Season Tickets, 1/2 Season Plans, Suites and Patios are also available.
