Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Omaha Storm Chasers (7-6) used a sudden power surge to defeat the Round Rock Express (7-7) by a final score of 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon. All five Omaha runs came on a total of four home runs.
E-Train RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx (0-1, 3.45) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up four runs on a total of six hits in six innings on the bump. The righty struck out three without walking a batter. Omaha RHP Jake Junis (1-0, 3.18) earned the win after limiting Round Rock to just two runs on five hits in five innings.
The early start time didn't seem to faze the Express as the team scored in the bottom of the first inning. 2B Drew Robinson kicked off the contest with a leadoff double before coming home on an ensuing Travis Snider single two batters later.
Omaha jumped ahead in the third as 2B Corey Toups and 3B Dean Anna each notched solo home runs. However, Snider sent LF Pat Cantwell flying home with a double in the bottom of the inning.
The visitors did more damage in the sixth. Anna collected a one-out single, then 1B Ryan O'Hearn stepped to the plate and dropped a home run just inside the foul pole in right field. With E-Train LHP Jimmy Reyes on in relief, Storm Chasers C Parker Morin added a solo shot of his own in the eighth inning, extending his team's lead to 5-2.
The Express attempted a rally in the eighth inning as CF Jared Hoying walked before C Brett Hayes singled. An RBI single courtesy of 1B Ronald Guzman scored Hoying and moved Hayes to third. DH Preston Beck grounded into a 4-6-3 double play in the next at-bat, but the slow roller left enough time for Hayes to sprint home, trimming the deficit to 5-4, a score that held to be the final.
The two teams resume their four-game series on Thursday night. Round Rock RHP Eddie Gamboa (1-0, 5.11) is scheduled to pitch against Omaha RHP Kyle Zimmer (0-0, 3.86). First pitch on The Original Thirsty Thursday, presented by Firetrol Protection Systems, at Dell Diamond is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Single game tickets, season memberships, Flex Plans and Kids Club packages are on sale now. For more information on the Express, visit or call (512) 255-2255. Keep up with the Express on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter !
