Edmonton, AB.: The Calgary Hitmen completed the home and home sweep against the Edmonton Oil Kings with a 5-2 victory Friday night. The Hitmen scored five power play goals, two coming off the stick of Joel Broda, and they never looked back. Calgary now has three victories in as many games against the Oil Kings.

"When you play a power play game you allow their skill to take over," said Head Coach Steve Pleau. "Five on five we won the game 2-0. I thought we deserved that, we outworked them and we outshot them."

Broda opened the scoring when he gobbled up a ricochet off the end boards and stuffed the puck past Oil Kings goalie Torrie Jung. Late in the first, Ian Schultz played give and go out of the corner with Broda and bounced one off a defender and in. The two power play goals were the only first period markers.

The Oil Kings broke a seven period scoring slump in the second. Tomas Vincour let a howitzer go from just inside the blue line that cleanly beat Calgary netminder Michael Snider. Henrik Tervonen picked up an assist on the goal in his first game of the season. The veteran defenseman suffered a shoulder injury in training camp. Calgary scored the next two goals of the game on the power play. Brandon Kozun scored his eighth goal of the season and Broda notched his second of the game. Brett Breitkreuz gave the Oil Kings some life late in the frame when he picked off a pass, had a shot blocked, then scored on the second chance. The fourth of the year by Breitkreuz closed the gap to 4-2.

Calgary's Chase Schaber scored the fifth power play goal early in the third and that was it for Jung. He was replaced in net by Cam Lanigan after giving up five goals on 22 shots. The Oil Kings (6-7-0-2) have dropped three in a row and five of their last six games. The Hitmen (11-4-0-0) have won three straight and are now eight points up on Edmonton in the Central Division standings.

The Medicine Hat Tigers are next up for the Oil Kings tomorrow night. It's a Celebrity Saturday and members of the Memorial Cup winning 1963 Edmonton Oil Kings will be on hand signing autographs. Josh Koper, the newest Oil King, will get a shot at his old team from the Hat. The Seattle Thunderbirds are in for their only visit to Rexall Place on October 28th for Sonic Wiener Wednesday.
