Hitmen Dropped in OT
Red Deer, AB - Arshdeep Bains scored 4:06 into extra time to push the Red Deer Rebels past the Calgary Hitmen 3-2 on Saturday night at Westerner Park Centrium.
The Rebels scored the final three goals of the game as Ben King forced overtime with 2:54 remaining. Chris Douglas also scored for the home side while Chase Leslie chipped in a pair of assists.
The Hitmen received their markers from rookie Tristan Zandee and sophomore Sean Tschigerl with Zandee's his first career Western Hockey League goal and Tschigerl's his second in as many games to start the season.
Both teams finished with 34 shots as Ethan Anders made 32 saves in the Rebels net while Jack McNaughton turned aside 31 shots for Calgary.
Despite the loss, the Hitmen picked up three of a possible four points against their Central Division rivals on opening weekend following Friday's 2-0 shutout victory over Red Deer.
The Hitmen will now enjoy a full five-day break before returning to action next weekend with a trio of games against the Tigers. It all begins on Friday, March 12th in a 7:30 p.m. start at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut'ina Nation. The return match goes on Saturday, March 13th in Medicine Hat before culminating back at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Sunday, March 14th at 7:00 p.m.
