Hillcats to Host 2011 Open House

The Hillcats have set the date for their 2011 Open House, which will be held on Saturday, April 2nd from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Lynchburg City Stadium. The event will be free to attend, will include free food and drink, and free activities to help fans gear up for the new season. Fans will be invited to take batting practice, use the Hillcats inflatables, take tours and more!

This annual event is open to the public and the first 1,000 fans in attendance at will receive a voucher for a free hot dog and a drink!

At 11:30 a.m. the Hillcats Home Run Derby will begin as local media personalities compete for this years derby crown. Returning contestants, such as Steve Cross from Sunny FM and Greg Travis from WROV will attempt to defeat the two-time defending champion Justin Feldkamp from ABC 13. Felkamp was also the only contestant last year to hit an actual home run, blasting one over the outfield fence! After last year's success, fans will again be able to view this exciting event as contestants face the added pressure of competing in front of an audience.

Following the home run derby, fans under the age of 14 are encouraged to come down on to Calvin Falwell Field for free batting practice. Kids will have the chance to take their hacks on the same diamond that their favorite Hillcats do every season at City Stadium!

Fans will also be provided with a sneak peak of the updates completed at City Stadium as the Hillcats prepare for a new parent club! Batting practice will take place on the new infield, which was redone with new sod and rebuilt pitcher's mounds in the infield and both bullpens! There will also be tours of the home clubhouse, which has undergone a series of changes for the inaugural season as the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Fans will get a glimpse of this rarely seen area and it's new carpet, paint and more!

Other activities slated for the open house include the use of both Hillcats inflatables and tours of the Hillcats luxury skyboxes, all for free. The Hillcats team shop, the Catty Shack, will also be open during the open house with special discounted prices on souvenirs!

Don't forget that single game tickets, season tickets, book tickets and nightly skybox rentals are all currently on sale for the 2011 season. The home opener is slated for April 15th at 6:05 p.m. when the Hillcats welcome the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to town. They can be purchased by calling the box office at (434) 528-1144 or online at www.lynchburg-hillcats.com. Ticket purchases can also be made in person at the Lynchburg City Stadium Ticket Office (Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.).
