Hillcats to Celebrate 'Ronnie Roberts Day' on Saturday

Lynchburg, Va. - The Lynchburg Hillcats are excited to announce that the team will celebrate the retirement of General Manager, Ronnie Roberts, on Saturday, August 18.
The ceremony for Roberts will take place before the Hillcats scheduled game against the Frederick Keys, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The team will retire jersey No. 28, commemorating the 28 years that Roberts spent with the organization. Additionally, there will be a video tribute that will air on the City Stadium video board.
"For nearly three decades, Ronnie poured his heart and soul into Lynchburg Hillcats baseball," said Hillcats President, Chris Jones. "For once, in one of his final home games as our General Manager, Ronnie deserves to have a day dedicated to himself. His contributions to this team and to the Central Virginia community are everlasting, and we look forward to celebrating his fantastic career on Saturday."
Roberts, 69, was hired in 1991 to be the Head Groundskeeper, following a tenure in the insurance and banking industries. He served as Assistant General Manager for the Hillcats from 1993-2015, and has been the General Manager of the club since 2016.
First pitch between the Hillcats and Keys on Saturday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Lynchburg returns to City Stadium on August 17 to begin their series with Frederick. It will be Mario Kart Night, featuring a Triston McKenzie bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,000 fans, presented by Pepsi. Other homestand highlights include Sparkling Saturday on August 18, courtesy of Food Lion, and Sandlot Sunday, featuring post-game family catch in the outfield, kids run the bases, and wiffle ball, presented by MedExpress.

The Lynchburg Hillcats are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The Hillcats are eight-time Carolina League Champions, having most recently won the Mills Cup Championship in 2017.
