Highlights: Dellandrea Shines, Sets Record in CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game Thursday

Guelph, Ont. - Ty Dellandrea scored two goals in 20 seconds on Thursday night en-route to setting an event record for the 'fastest two goals scored by a single player' in a CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, sponsored by Sherwin-Williams. Dellandrea and Team Cherry skated to a 7-4 victory over Team Orr before a capacity crowd at the Sleeman Centre (capacity 4,715).

Team Cherry started the scoring at 14:10 of the first period. Aidan Dudas (Owen Sound Attack) increased Team Cherry's lead to two, scored his first of the night at 15:35 before Dellandrea lit-the-lamp for back-to-back goals. First, Dellandrea extended Team Cherry's lead to three, scoring at 16:22 of the first period. His goal 20 seconds later at 16:42 set a second record for 'fastest three goals by one team' in 1:07 of time.

Team Cherry led 4-0 after the first period and led in shots 16-9.

Team Cherry would make it 5-0, before Team Orr scored a pair of goals. After two periods, Team Cherry led 7-2 and led in shots 30-18. Team Orr would add a pair of goals in the third period, however, Team Cherry finished with a 7-4 victory and outshot Team Orr 41-26. Of the 11 goals scored, six were from OHL players.

Dellandrea finished the night with two goals on two shots.

All 14 CHL players chosen in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft competed in last year's game played in Quebec. In 22 years, a total of 307 CHL players from this event have been chosen by NHL clubs in the first round of the NHL Draft representing close to 47% of all players selected.

Since the event was first introduced in 1996 the game has featured 14 players selected with the first overall pick in the NHL Draft including Hischier, Connor McDavid, Aaron Ekblad, Nathan MacKinnon, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Taylor Hall, John Tavares, Steven Stamkos, Patrick Kane, Marc-Andre Fleury, Rick Nash, Vincent Lecavalier, Joe Thornton, and Chris Phillips.

Dellandrea is the second Firebird to compete in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, following Will Bitten in January of 2016.

Next up for Flint, the Firebirds will stay in Guelph for a Friday evening contest against the Storm at 7:30 p.m.
