HFX Wanderers FC Announce Signing of Jamaican International Alex Marshall

January 29, 2020 - Canadian Premier League (CPL) - HFX Wanderers FC News Release

Halifax, N.S. - HFX Wanderers FC are thrilled to announce the club's new signing is entertaining Jamaican international forward Alex Marshall.

The 21-year-old exploded on the Caribbean football scene with Jamaican Premier League team Cavalier FC, where he's played since the age of 16.

He's one of the most talked about young prospects in his home country, after playing at the U 17 and U 23 levels for Jamaica, before graduating to the Reggae Boyz senior squad as a 19-year-old.

He has gone on to make 11 appearances for the Jamaican national team who are in 48th place in the FIFA world rankings.

"I'm excited, I've watched videos and seen the pitch in Halifax and it's a really good environment and a really good team," Marshall said. "I'm going to give everything and fight and try to get the best results for the team."

Wanderers coach Stephen Hart sees Marshall as an attacking talent who can provide moments of skill to unlock defences and give the fans something special to cheer.

As well as operating from either wing, Hart may also use him in the number 10 role just behind the striker or even as a centre-forward.

"He is the type of player that can make things happen when all things are equal, he is a good dribbler and he also has an eye for that final pass. I think he has a lot of qualities and he looks to be somebody who enjoys playing football," Hart said. "That's something you cannot teach."

Marshall's signing is a bold acquisition for the Wanderers given he is already a full international and the player has been linked with a number of big clubs from England's Premier League.

He has an impressive 73 appearances and 21 goals under his belt for his Jamaican club team Cavalier.

He also has a knack of playing his best when everything is on the line in the big games, getting on the score sheet in the 2017 Super League Final to help win his team promotion to the Jamaican Premier League.

"I'm going to try to put on a good show every day for the fans and take on players and try to score goals and get assists and that's an attackers job," Marshall said.

The Wanderers new player, who is signing pending approval of a work permit, becomes the fifteenth confirmed member of Stephen Hart's 2020 Wanderers squad.

He has signed a multi-year deal in Halifax.

"We're in a good position in building our 2020 squad and I'm very pleased with how things are looking for us," Hart said.

Marshall and the other Wanderers players will be arriving in Halifax in March when the Wanderers preseason training camp begins.
