Hens Sweep Knights in Front of Sell-Out Crowd

May 17, 2018 - International League (IL) - Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Toledo Mud Hens completed a three-game sweep over the Charlotte Knights with a 3-2 win Thursday afternoon at Fifth Third Field. Ronny Rodriguez and Christin Stewart both had multi-hit games to lead the Hens offense.

Rodriguez led off the game for Toledo (26-12) with a single extending his consecutive game hitting streak to 13 games which paces the International League for the longest active streak.

He was batted in courtesy of a double down the right field line by Stewart. Chad Huffman sent a ball in the air to deep right field that was caught on the warning track but allowed Stewart to score on the play.

In the third inning, Rodriguez recorded his second single of the game, and Stewart followed it up with a walk. Jim Adduci then put a ball into center field that scored Rodriguez. The three runs proved to be enough to defeat Charlotte (15-24) by a score of 3-2 for the third consecutive day.

Stewart finished two for three on the afternoon with an RBI and a run scored. Rodriguez ended two for four scoring two runs.

The Mud Hens have now won five games in a row and 10 of their last 11 games dating back to May 6.

Kyle Dowdy mad his AAA debut and recorded a win for the Mud Hens. Dowdy went five innings allowing five hits, one run, one earned run, zero walks and punched out two batters.

Pitching two innings of relief, Paul Voelker allowed one hit, zero runs, one walk and struck out four.

In one inning of relief, Phillippe Aumont suffered zero runs zero walks and recording two strikeouts.

Kevin Comer recorded his third save of the campaign allowing two hits, one run, one earned run, zero walks and he struck out one batter.

The sell-out crowd is the fourth of the season and 467th all time at Fifth Third Field.

The Mud hens will be back in action tomorrow night with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. as the Gwinett Stripers come to town.
