Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Inspired by the story of former Black Hawks captain and current San Jose Sharks forward Joe Pavelski reuniting a lost dog and his owner, the Waterloo Black Hawks and the Cedar Bend Humane Society will host a special adoption event this Sunday from 10AM to Noon.

Members of the 2011-2012 Waterloo Black Hawks will be on hand as fans and pet-lovers are invited to visit the Humane Society at 1166 West Airline Highway in Waterloo. Each of the shelter's dogs adopted during the event will take home their own "Pavelski 8" t-shirt, autographed by Black Hawks players. All adoption fees will be reduced during the event.

Earlier this month, Pavelski was getting ready for a game when he noticed a small stray dog named Cocoa in his backyard. By a fortunate coincidence, Cocoa's owner had been in the neighborhood the day before and a flyer describing the missing animal had landed on Pavelski's table. Joe and his wife Sarah put the pieces together and arranged a reunion within minutes.

"As a dog owner, I think this is a great story," said Black Hawks President Doug Miller. "Hopefully it will inspire folks to come out and meet some great dogs who are looking for a home during this holiday season."

The Black Hawks are on ice this weekend before heading to the Humane Society. They face Team USA Friday and host the Omaha Lancers Saturday. Both games at Young Arena begin at 7:05.
