Hearn Strikes out Seven as Curve Fall at Akron

AKRON, Ohio - The Altoona Curve were held to four hits and shut out by the Akron RubberDucks, 2-0, on Tuesday night at Canal Park.

The Curve (6-4) have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, dropping the first two games of the series against the RubberDucks (6-5)

Altoona starter Taylor Hearn (Loss, 0-1) worked six innings and allowed one run on four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in his second Double-A start.

Mark Mathias gave Akron a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning with an RBI double, the only run allowed by Hearn on the night. Akron added a second run in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly by Ka'ai Tom.

Akron starting pitcher Shane Bieber threw seven scoreless innings and allowed four hits with no walks and six strikeouts. He has now pitched 20 innings this season without allowing a run.

Elvis Escobar went 2-for-3 in the game for the Curve.

Cole Tucker went 0-for-4, snapping his league-leading on-base streak at 25 games.

The Curve and RubberDucks play the third of the four-game series on Wednesday night. Right-hander J.T. Brubaker (0-1, 2.70) will start for Altoona, opposed by Akron right-hander Aaron Civale (0-0, 2.45). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Canal Park.
