Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Ryan Hartman struck out a career-high 11 batters Thursday night, leading the charge in the Hooks' 4-0 victory over San Antonio at Whataburger Field.
With its sixth consecutive win, Corpus Christi completed a 7-1 homestand and stands a season-best eight games over .500.
The Hooks (24-16) now trail the Missions (25-15) by 1.0 game in the Texas League South standings.
Hartman (3-1) scattered three singles, one double and one walk over 6.1 frames. The 24-year-old lefty dispatched 13 of the final 14 men he faced. Missions starter
Lake Bachar had retired seven in a row before running into two-out trouble in the third. Myles Straw sent a line drive base hit into center field, and then swiped second base. Josh Rojas was next and cracked a single into right field for a 1-0 Hooks lead.
Bachar (0-1) kept it a one-run game until Corpus Christi broke through in the sixth. Carmen Benedetti plated Rojas on a double which bounced into the left-centerfield bullpen. Randy Cesar was next and crushed a 3-1 pitch over the left-field berm for a two-run home run.
Erasmo Pinales struck out four of the six men he faced and Riley Ferrell pitched a perfect ninth to secure the Hooks' second shutout win of the year.
Corpus Christi hits the road for a four-game series at Frisco. Brock Dykxhoorn (2-0, 2.32) is slated to start Friday's series opener. First pitch 7:05.
