Harrisburg Senators Game Notes vs. Bowie - Game #9

April 15, 2018 - Eastern League (EL) - Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Senators and Baysox play the rubber match of the three game series Sunday afternoon at FNB Field. Bowie evened the series with a 15-6 win in 10 innings Saturday night after coming back in the ninth inning with the Baysox down to their final out. The two clubs split their season opening series April 5-8 at Prince George's Stadium. The two teams are scheduled to play a total of 22 games against each other, the most the Senators play any team in the Eastern League.

Saturday's game featured a pair of rare accomplishments by Senators players. Jacob Wilson became the eighth player in franchise history and the first since Mario Lisson on May 20, 2015 to knock two sacrifice flies in the same game. In addition, Daniel Johnson stole three bases, one off the franchise single-game record and just the second player to accomplish the feat since 2014. Michael A. Taylor stole three bases on August 10, 2017 in a rehab assignment.

The Senators home opening night crowd of 6,758 was their largest crowd for a home opener in franchise history. The last time the Senators drew over 6,000 fans on opening night was on April 15, 2010 vs. New Britain when the club drew 6,361 fans in the first game after renovations at FNB Field.

Bowie's run in the first inning ended a string of 17.2 consecutive scoreless innings by Senators starters, dating back to the first inning on April 10 against Altoona. Overall, six out of the first eight Senators starters have allowed three earned runs or less to open the season. In addition, with the exception of Luis Reyes' starts, all six other Senators starters walked only two or fewer batters and lasted at least five innings through the first eight games of the season.

Dan Gamache is tied for the Eastern League lead with a .419 (13-31) average over the first week of the season. The former Pirates farm hand is tied for first in the league with four doubles in the early season, and has recorded multiple hits in six of the eight games of the year. Gamache has reached base safely on either a hit or a walk in all eight games this season.

The opening homestand is one of four seven-game homestands the Senators are hosting this season. The club went 30-40 at FNB Field last season, the first time team had a losing record at home since 2014 when they finished the home slate 31-40.

Wirkin Estevez starts the series finale for the Senators. The right-hander allowed just one run across five innings in his first start of the season against Altoona. For more information on Estevez, please turn to the starting pitcher page on page two of the game notes.

The Baysox counter with starter Michael Kelly. The right-hander tossed five innings of two run ball in his first start against Erie on April 9. Kelly was originally a compensation round pick by San Diego in the 2011 draft out of high school and was signed by the Orioles organization on December 14, 2017. The 25-year-old is in his first year outside of the San Diego organization.
