Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release

Wilmington, NC - Two Wilmington Hammerheads players have officially signed to play in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) for the 2012-2013 season. The Rochester Lancers formally welcomed defender Troy Cole to their player roster over the weekend while his Hammerheads teammate, goalkeeper Troy Hernandez, also signed to play in the indoor league professionally with the Baltimore Blast.

Troy Cole began preseason training with the Lancers during the month of October and will make his MISL debut in the approaching season. "I've played in the USL for three years now," said Cole. "MISL is a great opportunity to improve my skills and to stay fit during the USL offseason. I'm a rookie in the indoor sense and my goal is to not only make a difference on this team, but to also make a name for myself in this league."

Prior to playing with the Hammerheads, Cole played for FC New York (USL PRO), the Atlanta Blackhawks (PDL), and AC St. Louis (USSF Division II). Cole had a successful debut season with the Hammerheads going to the 2012 USL PRO Championship back in September.

"It has been an awesome transition moving from one great organization to another," expressed Cole. "I hope to win another league title with my indoor team just as I did with the Hammerheads."

The Rochester Lancers will kick off their season against the Syracuse Silver Knights in Syracuse on Saturday, November 3, 2012.

Meanwhile, south of Rochester, the Baltimore Blast selected Hammerheads goalkeeper Troy Hernandez to join the squad for the 2012-2013 MISL season. The Blast has cemented its spot in Baltimore sports history and the league by capturing six MISL championships since it first made its mark in the city in 1980.

Hernandez made his USL PRO debut with the Hammerheads during the 2012 regular season. He faced a minor setback in preseason when he had to undergo surgery due to a bone chip in his hand and was not able to get back on the field until May.

Hernandez stepped into the USL PRO spotlight during the Hammerheads 2012 playoff run versus the Richmond Kickers in the quarterfinals, followed by the Orlando City Lions in the semifinals. His outstanding performance helped lead the Hammerheads to the title of 2012 USL PRO Finalists and the championship match in Charleston.

The Baltimore Blast will kick off their season at home against the Chicago Soul on Saturday, November 3, 2012.
