Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
JUPITER, FL (August 16th, 2011) - The Jupiter Hammerheads scored in four consecutive innings, storming to a 7-1 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium.
After tying the game 1-1 in the fourth inning, the Hammerheads tagged Miracle relievers for two runs in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Nate Woods rudely welcomed reliever Cole Nelson to the Minnesota Twins organization with a two-run, two-out single in the fifth.
Nelson (5-12) picked up the loss. The 6-7 lefty walked the first three hitters of the inning, then retired two Hammerheads before Woods put Jupiter on top 3-1.
Jupiter catcher Gregg Glime picked up RBI doubles in the sixth and seventh innings to add four insurance runs. Glime finished the game 2-for-2 with three runs driven in, two walks and two runs scored.
The Miracle started right-hander Alex Wimmers for the first time since April. The Cincinnati, Ohio native was perfect through the first two innings, but allowed a run on two hits to finish through the fourth before being removed.
Hammerhead starter Chad James (4-15) tossed five innings, scattering six hits and giving up just one run to earn the win.
Fort Myers only run came on a bloop RBI single from Jamaal Hawkins in the fourth inning.
The Miracle (53-66, 19-31) play a second game against Jupiter (51-70, 19-32) at Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. before returning to Hammond Stadium on Thursday. Listen to all the action at www.miraclebaseball.com with the 'Voice of the Miracle' Alex Margulies and Brice Zimmerman.
