SOUTHAVEN, MS --- As the RiverKings take on the Youngstown Steelhounds at 7:05pm at the DeSoto Civic Center Friday night, the Hernando/DeSoto Chapter of Habitat for Humanity will be highlighted as the night's featured non-profit.

Habitat for Humanity strives for a DeSoto County where everyone has a decent place to live, and makes it their mission to help build decent and affordable housing for qualified families in need.

Habitat for Humanity and the RiverKings paired up earlier this season when RiverKings players helped to roof a Habitat for Humanity home in Walls, MS.

"It was exciting to have the players help with that roof this past October," said Marcus Manning, President of the Hernando/DeSoto Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. "We enjoy partnering with the RiverKings. We have taken part in the featured non-profit of the night for a number of years now. Three years in a row, a couple of years back, we collaborated with Chambliss Realty for Habitat for Humanity Night with the RiverKings. We've continued on since then."

"We appreciate this evening with the RiverKings," Manning commented, "It helps us to raise money for our organization as well as awareness for our cause within DeSoto County ."

Currently, Habitat for Humanity is in need of land within DeSoto County on which these decent and affordable houses can be built. Individuals interested in donating land should contact the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi.

Habitat for Humanity will have a table setup, behind section 117, Friday where they will have further information on the organization as well as their upcoming Walk A Thon.

"Our annual Walk A Thon will take place on Saturday May 6 this year," reported Manning. "This is a family friendly walk that will begin at 2pm at the Wal-Mart in Olive Branch."

There will also be a silent auction taking place at the Habitat for Humanity table this Friday night.
