Growlers Sign Kristians Rubins

St. John's, NL - The Newfoundland Growlers have signed the Riga, Latvia native Kristians Rubins to a one-year, ECHL contract.
The 6'-4", 216-pound defencemen appeared in 126 games over the past two seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL, registering 11 goals and 51 assists for 62 points, along with a +35 rating and 60 penalty minutes.
Rubins, 20, has represented Latvia on the international stage on numerous occasions. During the 2017 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship he appeared in 6 games, while during the 2018 IIHF World Championship in Denmark he recorded 1 goal and 1 assist in 8 games.
As an 18-year-old, the Winnipeg Jets invited the undrafted European rearguard to their rookie camp after he spent two seasons with Vasteras-IK of Sweden's second-tier league.
The first game for the Newfoundland Growlers in their inaugural season will be October 12 when they face off against the Florida Everblades at Mile One Centre. Season Tickets are now available and can be purchased online at www.mileonecentre.com, in person at the box office or by phone at 576-7657.
