Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, IL - Gateway Grizzlies closer Chris Enourato induced a 4-6-3 double play groundout, leaving the game-tying run on third base, and capping off a 4-3 Gateway win against the Normal Cornbelters Sunday night at GCS Ballpark. Gateway's last three wins have come by one-run. The Grizzlies have won two consecutive series and they finished off their homestand with a record of 4-2.

Brad Stone (2-7) collected his second consecutive win. Stone tossed seven innings and surrendered only two runs on six hits, while striking out a season-high nine batters. Nick Walters and Enourato finished off the game to help Gateway get the one-run win. Enourate notched his ninth save of the season.

Normal (40-44) got on the board in the top of the third and took a 1-0 lead. Daniel Cox singled and reached second on a passed ball. Cox came around to score on an RBI bloop double by Alvaro Ramirez.

Gateway (35-48) took advantage of sloppy defense by Normal in the third. With one out, Derek Jennings collected a bunt single and advanced to third base on two throwing errors by the Normal defense. Jennings came around to score on an RBI groundout by Joe Agreste.

Frank Martinez led off the fourth inning with a single for Normal. Steven Alexander singled and both runners advanced to scoring position on a fly out. Mark Samuelson gave the Cornbelters a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly that scored Martinez.

Joe Agreste drove in a run with an RBI double and Charlie Lisk collected an RBI single in the fifth inning to give Gateway two runs and a 3-2 lead.

Gateway tacked on another run in the sixth inning on the fifth error of the game by the Normal defense.

Lisk was the only Grizzlie to have a multi-hit game. Lisk went 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI, while Agreste drove in two runs.

The Grizzlies enjoy a league-wide off day on Monday before beginning a three-game road series with the Southern Illinois Miners Tuesday night. Rookie left-hander Andres Caceres Jr. (2-2) gets the start for Gateway in game one of the series. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT Tuesday night at Rent One Park in Marion, IL.
