
Grasshoppers Walk off with 5-4 Win in 11 Innings

Greensboro, NC - Aaron Senne singled up the middle with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Greensboro Grasshoppers (21-24) to a 5-4 walk off win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (17-26) on Monday afternoon. The Grasshoppers won the series three games to one.
Down 2-0, the Shorebirds stormed in front in the fifth inning. Mychal Givens reached on a walk and moved to third on a liner into left-center by Roderick Bernadina. Then, Mikey Planeta hit a sharp line drive into right field to plate Givens. Two batters later, Connor Narron hit a grounder up the left field line to score two runs to give the Shorebirds a 3-2 lead. Michael Ohlman followed with a one hopper towards short to produce the fourth run.
Shorebirds starter Miguel Chalas went five innings and allowed just four hits and one earned run. He settled for a no decision.
Greensboro battled back in the seventh inning against reliever Bobby Wilkins. Matt Smith reached on a hit by pitch. Ryan McIntyre singled to right. Wilfredo Gimenez walked to load the bases. Brent Keys followed with an RBI single to trim the gap to 4-3. Ryan Goetz followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score the tying run.
Wilkins gave up two runs over two innings out of the pen. Gene Escat entered in the eighth inning and tossed two scoreless innings to send the game into extra innings.
The Shorebirds offense recorded just one hit between the sixth and eleventh innings.
Jesse Beal tossed a scoreless tenth inning, before giving up the game winner in the 11th. The Grasshoppers loaded the bases with three straight one out hits. With two outs and two strikes, Aaron Senne hit a chopper into center field to score Wilfredo Gimenez.
Mikey Planeta, Jerome Pena and Roderick Bernadina finished with two hits apiece.
The Shorebirds return to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium to begin a four game series on Wednesday, August 8 against Augusta at 7:05pm.
