Grant Ament 2020 MLL Draft Prospect
January 26, 2020 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release
Heading into the 2020 MLL Draft, Penn State attackman Grant Ament is among the top prospects on teams' radars.
Ament, a redshirt senior at Penn State, holds the school record for total assists with 160 and places second for total points with 240, according to gopsusports.com.Â
Leading the college field with averages of 7.41 points/game and 5.65 assists/game in 2019, Ament's elite offensive skill set makes him an ideal selection for the first two picks, New York Lizards and Dallas Rattlers, who look to improve upon -25 and -10 goal differentials respectively in the 2019 MLL season.Â
Last month, US Lacrosse Magazine named Ament the Preseason Player of the Year, the latest in a line of accolades garnered in his collegiate career, including the 2019 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Award and a 2019 Tewaaraton Award finalist nod.
Heading into the 2020 college season, MLL ranks Penn State No. 1. The Nittany Lions look to build upon last year's regular season domination that earned them the top seed heading into the NCAA Tournament before a surprise upset by No. 5 seed Yale in the tournament semifinals. Despite the loss, Ament posted a stellar individual performance, breaking an NCAA Tournament record with 18 assists.
During his time at Penn State, Ament has broken a slew of scoring and assist records for the school and the NCAA. His 96 assists set an NCAA record and his compiled 126 season points set a Big Ten and program record, according to bigten.org. Ament's player growth has come despite sitting out a season with a foot injury.
With an impressive resume already under his belt and one last collegiate season ahead of him, Ament is poised to be a highly sought after prospect in the upcoming MLL Draft.Â
