September 17, 2008 - Texas League (TL1)
Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield Cardinals' Vice President/General Manager Matt Gifford was honored by the Texas League earlier today, receiving the Texas League Executive of the Year Award. Gifford will share this year's honor with Eric Edelstein of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

The Springfield Cardinals just recently wrapped up their fourth season in franchise history, a year that started with a pair of exhibition games against the St. Louis Cardinals and was highlighted with an opportunity to showcase the City of Springfield and Hammons Field, with the 2008 Texas League All-Star Game presented by Great Southern.

"It's very humbling to be honored with this award," said Gifford. "The award isn't about me though. It's a direct result of the hard work our entire staff puts in throughout the year, along with the help and support of the greatest fans in baseball. With the league enjoying a record-breaking year with more than three million fans and the caliber of leadership throughout the teams in the league, it's a great tribute to the Cardinals' organization."

"The excellent work this season and the consistency over the last four years makes this award well-deserved for Matt," Texas League President Tom Kayser said. "It's a great reflection on the Cardinals' staff and their fans."

Gifford shares the award with Eric Edelstein, the General Manager of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, who just wrapped up their first season in the Texas League. "Our organization would like to congratulate Eric for the great job he did this year. There's a lot of work that goes into a franchise's first season, and he and his staff did a terrific job of establishing baseball in Northwest Arkansas."

The Springfield Cardinals wish to once again thank all the Cardinals' fans for a terrific 2008 season. For information on Season Tickets, please call (417) 863-0395.
