Generals Take First Game with Marshals 4-2
Victoria, TX - The Victoria Generals defeated the Texas Marshals 4-2 in front of a sold out crowd at Riverside Stadium. Tonight's game was the first of a two game series.
The victory improves the second place Generals to 7-6 on the season, while the Marshals sit in last place in the standings with a 2-10 record. The second game will be played tomorrow night at 7:05 in Victoria.
The Generals scoring started off with a RBI single from Jake Miller, who hit third baseman Michael Slaten home. Later on in the game, Luis Vargas scored on a ground rule double from newcomer Cam Coursey. Thomas Jeffries then laid down a bunt to bring Coursey home.
The Generals recorded eight hits tonight to help back up a solid pitching performance from the team. All Generals pitchers totaled for 11 strikeouts, and only three walks. Starting pitcher Gabriel Sequeira started the game strong for the Generals. Sequeira proceeded to sit down seven batters in 7 innings pitched. Tyler Crouch also contributed a strikeout in one inning pitched for the team. Returning pitcher Garrett Alexander came in for the team in the ninth inning, and he struck out the side to close the game for Victoria.
The Generals will host the Marshals again tomorrow night at 7:05 pm. The game's promotion will be "Strike Out Cancer Night" brought to you by Citizens Medical Center. The Generals will wear pink jerseys in honor of breast cancer awareness. During the game a silent auction will be held with multiple autographed items from Generals players. Following the game, a jersey auction will be held to sell the pink jerseys that Generals players will be wearing. All proceeds from this event will go to the fight against cancer.
