Gems Falls to Corvallis in Slugfest 9-8

Corvallis, OR: June 23, 2013 A five run 2nd inning by the Corvallis Knights countered a 4 run 1st by the Gems, as Corvallis outlasted the Gems 9-8 in the finale of the three game series at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field in Corvallis, OR Sunday afternoon. Trailing 9-6 in the 9th inning rally, Dempsey Grover (University of California Santa Barbara) scored on a passed ball followed by an RBI single by Paul Panaccione (Grand Canyon University). Relief pitcher Brandon Choate (Tacoma Community College) came on to record the final two outs and earn the save. Gems remain in 2nd in the South Division, falling to 9-6. Knights improve to 10-8.

Jason Eberhardt (George Fox University) moved to 2-0 with a win in relief for Corvallis. Ian Buckles (George Fox University) lost his first game in relief for the Gems, falling to 0-1 on the year. Gems finish 4-5 on the nine game road trip, the longest in the West Coast League this season.

The next Gems home game will be Monday, June 24th as the Gems host the Cowlitz Black Bears; with the first pitch at 6:35 pm. Monday's promotion is Kids Get in Free (sponsored by Kla-Mo-Ya Casino). Each Monday night game during the 2013 Gems season will be Kids Night.
