Klamath Falls Gems News Release
Klamath Falls, Oregon: Tuesday, January 8, 2013: The Klamath Falls Gems are happy to announce the first two player signings of the upcoming 2013 season. The Gems have signed shortstop Ryan Clark and catcher Campbell Wear, both from UC Santa Barbara.
Clark is a 6'0" 185 lb. freshman shortstop, who went to high school in Clovis, California, where he was an All-League selection and a nominee for an All-State infielder. Last summer he played for the Fresno Cardinals of the Pacific West Baseball League, hitting .387 in 26 games. "Ryan will be bouncing back and forth from shortstop to second base and may see some time at third for us this summer," said Gems' Head Coach Mitch Karraker.
Wear is a 6'3 195 lb. junior, who went to high school at Point Loma High in San Diego, California. He was first team All League, batting .320, with 17 RBI, six doubles, one triple, and two home runs. Wear was expected to be a pitcher at UCSB, but got moved behind the plate due to injuries and has found a home as a catcher. "Wear brings experience and leadership to the team, with strong catching abilities and a strong bat," said Karraker.
"We are excited to have both Ryan Clark and Campbell Wear as part of the Gems this summer," said General Manager Grant Wilson. "Anytime we can continue our relationship with Andrew Checketts, Head Coach at UC Santa Barbara, you have to be happy. Not only is Coach Checketts a great recruiter and coach, he has always sent me quality players for the summer," added Wilson.
2013 Klamath Falls Gems Ticket Packages are available by calling 541-883-4367. The first 2013 home game will be against the Medford Rogues on Saturday, June 1.
