Game Preview: September 26 vs Moncton

September 26, 2021 - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) - Charlottetown Islanders News Release

With the 2021-22 QMJHL season just five days away, the Charlottetown Islanders will lace them up for one final preseason bout in Moncton. Puck drop is set for 4 pm at the J.K Irving Centre in Bouctouche.

The Islanders finished their part of the home-at-home series with a victory as a vicious offensive outburst in the second period propelled them to a 6-2 win. Oliver Satny settled in nicely after 20 minutes of play stopping 22 shots and rookie forwards Matis Ouellet and Jonah Jelley added 2 points each.

Jim Hulton will be looking for another good performance from his youngsters as some key Islanders are still out at their respective NHL camps. Notable Islanders still not with the team include, Lukas Cormier (Vegas), Ben Boyd (Columbus), Oscar Plandowski (Detroit), Jakub Brabenec (Vegas), as well as Xavier Simoneau (Montreal), all having reported to NHL main camps after making their way through the rookie camp.

Prior to Friday night's loss, the Wildcats were defeated 2-1 by the Halifax Mooseheads and have recorded 2 wins during the preseason. A young team going through a rebuild will look to send their fans into the regular season with some hope as they prepare to welcome their Maritime foes in Bouctouche.

The Islanders were able to bounce back nicely after being taken down by the Cape Breton Eagles by a tally of 4-2. Charlottetown looked a little shaky through the first period on Friday night but meshed together much better as the game progressed.

Moncton will be looking for Alex Mercier to continue his strong preseason performance on offense this afternoon, while the Islanders will look to Ryan Maynard to add onto the 3 goals he has recorded so far throughout September.

Similar to the Islanders, the Wildcats had a key body return to the lineup Friday night as defenseman Charles-Antoine Pilote made his preseason debut. While Philippe Daoust remains in Ottawa attending their NHL camp.
