Game One of Second Round Slips Away From Huntsville
PEORIA, IL- The Havoc see early lead slip away in game one of the second-round matchup against the Peoria Rivermen and fall 5-2.
Huntsville kicked off the scoring for the second straight contest and third time in the playoffs when John Clewlow found the back of the net at 7:08 of the first period.
But eight minutes later, the Rivermen responded with two less than two minutes apart from each other to take a 2-1 lead into the second period. In the middle frame, after Peoria extended their lead to two, Tyler French saw a backdoor pass for his first professional postseason goal at 14:15. The powerplay goal came with assists to Sy Nutkevitch and Christian Powers to help Huntsville cut the deficit in half.
But, moments later the Rivermen scored their fourth of the evening to head to the third with a three- goal lead.
Early in the third, Peoria wrapped up the scoring for the night with their second powerplay goal to take game one of a best-of-three series by a final of 5-2.
Memorable Moments Sy Nutkevitch and Christian Powers wrapped up the night with two assists apiece. For Nutkevitch, he now has points in three of the first four postseason contests for the Havoc, while Powers now has points in two straight.
Huntsville has given up six or less shots in the third period in two of their last three contests. The Havoc gave up six or less in a third period 11 times during the regular season.
John Clewlow, who has points in two of the first four postseason contests for the Havoc, registered Huntsville's first opening frame goal of the playoffs.
