Austin Bruins News Release

AUSTIN, MN - Three straight games, three straight wins. The Austin Bruins' return to Riverside Arena was celebrated with an overtime thriller.

After six straight games and a month away from home, the Bruins returned to the friendly confines of Riverside Arena. Winning five of those games and securing eleven out of twelve possible points, the Bruins looked to continue the hot streak that they have been riding. The first period would be scoreless after both Ethan Robertson for the Bruins and Lawton Zacher for Minot would make some big-time saves.

To start the second, the Bruins would find themselves on a 5-on-3 Power Play and it would take only seven seconds for Damon Furuseth to get his first goal on the night to give Austin a 1-0 lead. Minot would have an answerback, just three minutes and forty seconds later as Joe Westlund would snipe one past Robertson to tie the game up at one apiece. Midway through the period, Dylan Cook would upend Lawton Zacher and would be assessed a 5-minute major and a game misconduct ending his night. Zacher would not return for the Minotauros as Dane Couture would come in to replace the injured Zacher. Late in the period, the Bruins would strike again on the Power Play, this time Walter Zacher would find just enough space on a short side bid to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead to the locker room after two periods of play.

Minot would find new life in the third period as they would quickly take the lead. Chase LaPinta and Jan-Kasper Bergman would both score just a minute apart to give Minot their first lead of the night at 3-2. Matt Desiderio would tie the game back up at 3-3 when his initial shot from the farside point would ricochet off of a Minotauro in front of the net. Sixty minutes of hockey would not be enough as the Bruins would play in their seventh overtime game of the season.

Austin would win the important opening draw to control the overtime frame. Trevor Stachowiak would be given a boarding penalty which in turn gives the Bruins a big Power Play chance. Taking no time, Gavin Morrissey would spot a wide-open Furuseth on the back door as he would bury the game-winner to secure the overtime victory for the Bruins. Ethan Robertson would pick up his 5th win of the season while stopping 29 of the 32 shots he would face.

The Bruins look to complete the back-to-back sweep of the Minotauros tomorrow night, puck drop from Riverside Arena is set for 7:05 PM.
