Frisco Places Four on 2021 All-Ifl Rookie Team
FRISCO, Texas - Four Frisco Fighters have been named to the 2021 All-IFL Rookie team, the IFL announced on Monday. Running back DeMarcus Felton, offensive lineman Maea Teuhema, defensive lineman Donald Louis, and kicker Kristov Martinez all received the honor.
"I'm proud of these four," said Fighters head coach Clint Dolezel. "All of them had impressive rookie seasons and were a large reason for the team's success this year."
The Fighters, in their inaugural season, had one of the best seasons in the IFL in 2021. Frisco finished third in the regular season with a 10-3 record. The team dominated the run game with Felton finishing second in the league in rushing yards among running backs and Teuhema anchoring the Fighters' offensive line.
On the other side of the ball, the Fighters were even more dominant, especially along the line of scrimmage. With help from Louis, Frisco finished the regular season with the league's best overall defense and best rush defensive, while also collecting the most sacks as a team.
After being eliminated in the 2021 semifinals, one game shy of the championship, the Fighters made it further into the post season than any expansion team has in 13 years of IFL football
RB DeMarcus Felton
DeMarcus Felton put together an electrifying season in his rookie year in the IFL, earning second-team All-IFL honors. Felton was an integral part of the Fighters offense and ranked second in the IFL in rushing among running backs and third in the league in rushing touchdowns. Felton carried 128 times in his rookie season for 507 yards (4th overall in the IFL) for an average of 39.0 yards per game (5th) with 20 rushing touchdowns.
OL Maea Teuhema
Rookie offensive lineman Maea Teuhema has been an anchor on the line for the Fighters in 2021. He proved his durability by starting all 13 regular season games the Fighters played and helped pave the way for Frisco's run game, which finished fourth in the league in rushing yards per game (79.9) and fifth in the league in rushing attempts (261) and rushing touchdowns (37).
DL Donald Louis
In his rookie season, defensive lineman Donald Louis was second on the team in tackles for loss (10 for a loss of 47 yards) and third on the team in sacks (3). Louis was a reliable force on the defensive line, which finished with the most sacks as a team (25). In his 15 games played, he logged 23 solo tackles and 37 total tackles. He also had two sack fumbles, which is tied for second most forced fumbles in the IFL.
K Kristov Martinez
In only nine games with the Fighters, kicker Kristov Martinez finished fourth in the IFL in field goals made (7) and fifth in field goal percentage (46.7%). He made 38-of-45 on extra points, making 84.4 percent of his extra point attempts.
