
Four Saint John Mill Rats Make NBL All-Star Game

(Saint John, NB): When the National Basketball League of Canada announced its 20 roster line-up for the inaugural All-Star game, four players from the Saint John Mill Rats made the lineup. The All-Star Game, presented by Rogers Communications, is taking place March 31-April 1 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Over 213,000 fan votes were cast for the inaugural NBL Canada All-Star, and the results were submitted to the seven NBL Canada Head coaches for the final decision on the top 20 players.
Point guard Anthony Anderson was leading the league in scoring until his injury at the start of January, which prevented him from playing 7 games. He still ranks second in the league in scoring per game, averaging 18.42 points. Anderson also ranks second in the league for assists per game, with a total of 188, averaging 6.07 per game. Anderson also picked up 8 double doubles this season, ranking 7th in the league.
Darren Duncan, a Merrimack College graduate, joined the team in early January and has since played 18 games. This was a huge season for Duncan as he is second behind Anthony Anderson in leading the team for points per game, averaging 17.94. He has also picked up 5 double doubles this season and leads the team in assists per game averaging 7.72 per game with a total of 139.
Anderson and Duncan were both named NBL Player of the Week this season, in November and January respectively.
Kevin Francis, a native of Toronto, Ontario, has also been selected along with Canadian Isaac Kuon. Francis hit the boards hard this season, finishing with a total of 217 rebounds, 67 of these offensive, ranking 14th in the league. He was also 77% from the line and averaged 12 points per game.
Isaac Kuon got off to a slow start this season but was able to step up his game netting 192 points, shooting 85% from the line. Out of his 24 games played, Kuon averaged a steal per game.
London Lightning's Eddie Smith and Halifax Rainmen's Joey Haywood were voted as Captains by the 7 NBL Canada Head Coaches.
Team Smith roster includes: Gabe Freeman, DeAnthony Bowden, Omari Johnson, Ricky Volcy (CAN), Morgan Lewis, Kevin Francis (CAN), Anthony Anderson, Darrell Wonge and Isaac Kuon (CAN).
Team Haywood roster includes: Tyrone Levett, Taliek Brown, Mike Williams, Chris Cayole (CAN), Ralphy Holmes, Brandon Robinson, Trayvon Lathan, Darren Duncan and Tut Ruach (CAN).
All-Star Weekend will consist of exciting, family-friendly events ranging from an All-Star breakfast and youth basketball clinics to a three-point shoot out, slam-dunk contest, legends game, and of course the All-Star game.
