Four-Run Fourth Helps Curve Spoil SeaWolves' Home Opener

April 13, 2018 - Eastern League (EL) - Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - Elvis Escobar drove a go-ahead, three-run triple and the bullpen dominated over the final four frames as the Altoona Curve beat the Erie SeaWolves, 6-2, on Friday night at UPMC Park.

The Curve (5-2) saw four combined scoreless innings by relievers Sean Keselica and Tate Scioneaux to hold off the SeaWolves (3-5), who were hit with their fifth straight loss.

With Erie ahead 2-1 in the fourth, Escobar drove his three-run triple to give the Curve the lead and then scored on an RBI single by Cole Tucker later in the inning.

Altoona starter Dario Agrazal (Win, 1-0) settled in to allow two runs over five innings with a walk and two strikeouts.

Keselica entered in the sixth inning and retired all six batters he faced, including striking out the last two hitters. Scioneaux worked through the final two innings with four strikeouts.

Jason Martin, who finished the game with three hits, led off the eighth with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ke'Bryan Hayes to extend the Curve lead to 6-2.

The Curve opened the scoring in the second inning when Pablo Reyes grounded into a force out, bringing home Logan Hill from third.

Erie immediately answered with an RBI single by Josh Lester in the bottom of the second to tie the score, and Dominic Ficociello put the SeaWolves ahead, 2-1, with a single in the third. The SeaWolves had the bases loaded later in the inning, but Agrazal worked out of the jam with a groundout by Jacob Robson.

Tucker went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two walks to extend his on-base streak to 23 games dating back to 2017.

Erie starter Spencer Turnbull (Loss, 0-1) walked five and allowed five runs on five hits in 4.1 innings.

The Curve and SeaWolves continue the series with the second of three games on Saturday afternoon at UPMC Park. Left-hander Brandon Waddell (0-0, 1.59) will start for Altoona, opposed by Erie right-hander Kyle Funkhouser (0-0, 6.00). First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
