
Four promoted to Avalanche

Salem, VA- For a second time in 2005 the Salem Avalanche's Roster has undergone a major overhaul. Avalanche Closer and All Star Aaron Williams has been promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi of the Texas League. IF Drew Sutton has been assigned to the Lexington Legends of the South Atlantic League. OF Adam Seuss has been released.
Four players have been promoted from Lexington to join the Avalanche in the second half. LHP's Troy Patton and Jeffrey Wigdahl and IF's Jonathan Ash and Ben Zobrist have been promoted after excelling in the first half of the 2005 season.
Patton, 19, was rated by Baseball America as the #5 prospect in the Houston Astros Organziation prior to the 2005 season. The 9th round pick of the 2004 Draft was 5-2 with a 1.94 ERA in 15 starts with the Legends.
Wigdahl, 23, was Houston's 23rd Round Draft pick in 2004. Drafted out of St. Mary's University in Texas, Wigdahl has been a great reliever in the back end of the bullpen for Lexington. Wigdahl is 1-1 with a 1.83 ERA and leads the Legends with 13 saves.
Ash, 22, was selected by Houston in the 11th round of the 2004 Draft out of Stanford University. The Legends 2B was hitting .320 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 67 games this season.
Zobrist, 24, was drafted out of Dallas Baptist University in the sixth round on the 2004 Draft by the Astros organization . The starting SS for Lexington was hitting .304 with two home runs and 32 RBI for the Legends. Zobrist hit .339 in 2004 to lead the New York Penn League in hitting.
Williams will be headed to Double-A for the first time in his career. The RHP leads the Avalanche and Carolina League in saves with 17 this season. In his 27 appearances, Williams registered a 2.34 ERA.
Sutton will head to Lexington after hitting .257 in 43 games with Salem. Sutton was srafted in the fifteenth round of the 2004 draft out of Baylor University.
Seuss' career with the Avalanche has come to a close after nearly two seasons with the ballclub. The outfielder had a great start to the 2004 season, and finished the year hitting .283 in 104 games. After being dealt to the New York Mets organization near the end of the 2004 season, Seuss was acquired by the Astros once again in the off-season. Seuss was hitting just .148 in 39 games in 2005.
