Fort Wayne gets past PrairieThunder

Terry Marchant scored two goals and added an assist to lead Fort Wayne to a 5-2 Western Conference victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder in United Hockey League action Thursday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Mario Larocque gave the Komets a 3-2 lead with 2:19 remaining in the second period on a goal off assists from Kevin Hansen and Bruce Richardson. It was the first of three straight goals for the Komets.

Matt Syroczynski put Fort Wayne ahead, 4-2, with 2:47 left in the game off assists from J.C. Ruid and Marchant, who added an empty net goal with 22 remaining. Former PrairieThunder player Andrew Lackner had his second assist of the night on the goal. A.J. Bozoian also had an assist.

The PrairieThunder started fast as Tyler Rennette scored a goal 17 seconds into the game off assists by Greg Koehler and Jarad Bourassa. Fort Wayne tied the game 15 minutes later on a goal by Martin Gascon off an assist by Lackner.

Koehler gave Bloomington a 2-1 advantage 3:56 into the second period on a goal off assists by Brad Thompson and Mark Phenow. Marchant then scored his first of two goals on a power play off assists by Guy Dupuis and Ruid to tie the score.

The PrairieThunder, which enjoyed a 32-24 advantage in shots on goal, saw its record dip to 25-44-5. Fort Wayne is 49-21-4. Bloomington returns to action Friday with its final road game of the season at Kalamazoo in a 6:30 p.m. start.
