Fargo Force News Release

FARGO, ND- Former Fargo Force defenseman Luke Witkowski signed a two-year professional contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL today.

Witkowski is the fourth former Force player to sign a professional contract behind Mike Lee, Josh Birkholz and just announced earlier today, Andy Taranto.

Witkowski just completed his senior season with the Western Michigan Broncos in the CCHA where he played in a total of 152 games over his four-year career putting up 38 points with 7 goals and 31 assists. He led the Broncos in his senior season as a captain with 53 blocked shots and ranked second for penalty minutes with 46. At the completion of the 2012-13 season, he was named Second-Team All-CCHA.

Prior to his college career with the Broncos, Witkowski played in the inaugural season for the Force where he served as the captain. He led the defense in scoring with 6 goals and 16 assists for a total of 22 points in 55 games played. He had a plus/minus rating of +30, the second best rating on the team that season.

Witkowski was drafted in the sixth round, 160th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He will join the Lightning's affiliate team, the Syracuse Crunch, in the AHL this week, with his professional debut coming on Friday, April 5 versus the Hershey Bears.
