Force Top Storm in Night 2 of the Weekend Series
One goal in each period stakes Fargo to a 3-0 lead & the Force survive a late Tri-City rally with a 3-2 win over the Storm tonight.
The Force took an early lead in tonight's game and never let up. 27 saves from Boynton in the net and three goals from three different Force players helped contribute to the victory.
The Force came out hot with a goal just 4:23 into the period. Hudson Thornton ripped one in from the blueline for his second goal of the season, assisted by Force newcomer Bear Hughes and Tristan Broz. Both teams had power play opportunities, but neither could capitalize. Boynton made some huge stops in the net to secure the Force's 1-0 lead to end the period.
The Storm started off period one with :34 seconds left in a power play but that was quickly killed off by Fargo. They had another man advantage eight minutes in, after a high sticking call against Kyle Smolen but again, they couldn't capitalize. With nine minutes remaining in the period Jake Braccini fired in a shot that rebounded off his defender, he secured the rebound and fired in a second shot, this time finding the back of the net and giving the Force a 2-0 lead. The Force were outshot 11-6 but held off the Storm to finish the period at 2-0.
The action in period three kicked off with a goal from Cody Monds straight out of a faceoff. He roofed one from in close, with assists from Aaron Huglen and Owen Gallatin. 30 seconds later the Storm responded with a goal of their own, cutting down their three-goal deficit and bringing the score to 3-1. With eight minutes remaining the Force sent one to the penalty box giving Tri-City their third power play opportunity of the night. A minute and 30 seconds into the powerplay Tri-City fired in a shot that ricocheted above the head of Boynton, cutting the Fargo lead down to one.
After that, the Force played very smart to hold onto their lead, taking home a 3-2 win.
The deciding 3rd game of the series is tomorrow night - 6:05 pm puck drop.
