Force Top Hawks 4-2
January 8, 2021 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Fargo Force scored twice in the first period, then added two more goals in the third, to double up the Waterloo Black Hawks 4-2 at Scheels Arena on Thursday.
The game was scoreless through 15 minutes, but defensive zone miscues provided the Force with their opportunity to jump ahead 2-0 on goals separated by 2:02. Tristan Broz had the first one from the right circle at 15:36 following Ryan Richardson's takeaway. Jeremy Davidson recorded the next tally, stuffing in the puck after recovering it behind the Waterloo net.
Ryan O'Hara struck for the first Black Hawks goal at 4:56 of the second. Turning on the puck and using a quick release, O'Hara beat Andrew Miller from above the right faceoff dot.
The Force build their lead to 4-1 in the third. Trevor Griebel's shot at 8:02 hit both posts before coming to rest in the crease. Erik Bargholtz found the loose puck there and shoveled it in. Then at 14:07, a fast-passing sequence left Cody Monds with an open side during a power play.
The Hawks also converted a power play to stay within striking distance during the closing minutes. A determined effort on the right boards kept the puck in the offensive zone. When the came off the wall, Owen Ozar slipped behind the Force defense to tuck in a backhander at 15:47.
Ozar's goal was one of only four shots the Force allowed in the third period. Miller made 24 total saves for the win as Fargo compiled a 30-26 shots advantage.
Waterloo moves on to meet the Sioux Falls Stampede for Friday and Saturday road games.
