Force Prepare To Take On Bucs
Published on April 8, 2010 under Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) News Release
GREENVILLE, SC (April 8, 2010) - After having past two weeks off, the Greenville Force (1-0) of the Southern Indoor Football League prepare to take on the defending champion Louisiana Swashbucklers (1-1) this Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
Thanks to a team dropping from their schedule, it seems as if the Greenville Force haven't even taken the field yet. After their 44-28 win over the Lafayette Wildcatters back on March 21st, the Force have enjoyed consecutive weeks off getting the chance to scout and learn about other clubs.
"You really don't like having bye weeks so early in the season," says Greenville Head Coach Tony Wells. "But when you have so many new teams it almost gives you the leg up to watch how the competition plays out."
Along with Greenville, Louisiana opened up on the SIFL's opening weekend with the Swashbucklers dismantling the North Texas Crunch 88-6 followed up by the Bucs getting manhandled by Columbus losing 88-32.
In the past two weeks since the Force last played, the SIFL landscape has changed rapidly. Since they last played, one club has already made a coaching change while arguably the leagues expected top two teams have already suffered a minor set back in losing both their first road games. The first three weeks of the season gives the complexion that the teams in the SIFL are relatively even.
Greenville remains unscathed with the quarterback-wide receiver tandem of Andrew Webb and Isaac West presenting problems for a Swashbucklers secondary that allowed 274 passing yards and seven touchdowns in their last outing against the Lions. In their opening game, the Force tandem managed to break five SIFL records including Webb's 290 total yards of offense and West's 151 receiving yards. The pair hooked up for four touchdowns (SIFL record) receiving player of the weeks nods for week 1.
Louisiana is determined to get back on track and it could begin this Friday night. Even though it was the biggest margin they had ever loss by, the Swashbucklers know that it only counts as one loss in the standings.
"We made some mistakes on offense which hurt us badly," says Louisiana Swashbucklers Head Coach Shadrick McAfee. "Were working on fixing those mistakes in practice and we will have some key players back that will contribute right away."
Both offensive lineman Lance Fremin and Buck Harris are expected back after missing the Columbus game due to prior obligations. The Bucs will once again be without kicker Tommy Hebert. With Hebert two weeks ago, Louisiana did not have one touchback on kickoffs while only converting 1 of 5 two-point conversions.
The Swashbucklers will travel to take on the Greenville Force kicking at 7:30 p.m. this Friday night at the Bi-Lo Center. Fans will be able to follow all Friday's action via twitter by logging on to www.southernifl.com.
