Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL - This Wednesday, October 15th, the Flyers front office staff and players will be going pink for American Cancer Society's "Real Men Wear Pink". As a sign of the Flyers' continuing support of the American Cancer Society (ACS) and Breast Cancer Awareness, the men of the Flyers front office staff, local players and mascot Bearon will be getting a bright pink hair extension live on Channel 5 News at 6 am on Wednesday.

"The Flyers are excited to have another opportunity to show our support of the American Cancer Society and breast cancer research," says Flyers General Manager, Ben Burke. "Like so many others, our lives or the lives of our loved ones have all been touch by cancer. We're proud to partner with the ACS and HIP salon in Schaumburg to help promote breast cancer awareness."

The "Real Men Wear Pink" campaign is designed to encourage men to remind the women in their lives to get their annual mammograms. Men are being asked to help spread the word about early detection by wearing pink attire on October 15th. Men who register to participate will receive a pink ribbon pin and breast cancer awareness info to distribute to the women they see on October 15th.

"We are thrilled to have a great partnership with the Flyers and Alexian Field. The Flyers have always gone above and beyond in their dedication to the American Cancer Society's mission," says Maggie Osborne, Senior Health Initiatives Representative for the American Cancer Society Northwest Suburban Region. "We're proud of their commitment to cancer issues, especially toward raising breast cancer awareness in our community."

Alexian Field has been an annual host site for the ACS Relay for Life and also was a stop for the ACS Fight Back Express Bus on July 24th, 2008.
