Flyboys Scorch Doughboys in Johnson City, 12-2

JOHNSON CITY - Greeneville used a five-run top of the fourth inning along with a three-run home run from Jaylon Lee to secure a 12-2 victory against Johnson City on Friday at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.

Greeneville (33-15-1) secured home-field advantage for the Appalachian League Championship Game following a victory on Thursday. Greeneville will face Pulaski after the River Turtles captured the East Division title on Friday. The winner-take-all game is scheduled for Monday, August 9 with first pitch set for 7 p.m. at Pioneer Park.

The Flyboys would score in each of the first four innings of play and take the lead for good following a two-run second inning. Lee would give Greeneville a 2-1 lead with a run-scoring groundout, while Homer Bush, Jr. plated the second run after reaching base on a throwing error by Johnson City.

Daylen Reyes delivered one of his two run-scoring singles in the top of the third inning to give Greeneville a 4-1 advantage. Lee later followed with his first home run in a Greeneville uniform to give the Flyboys a 7-1 cushion in the third inning.

Greeneville would send nine batters to the plate in the fourth inning as Trevor Austin opened the scoring with a solo home run to make it 8-1. Lee would factor into another big play for the Flyboys as he reached base following a throwing error by the Doughboys to allow three runs to score and make it 12-1.

Both bullpens would help to move the game along to start the fifth inning as Greeneville and Johnson City worked 1-2-3 frames after handing things over to the relievers. Kelyn Fox worked five innings out of the pen for Greeneville and scattered four hits. Fox fanned seven batters on the night while allowing a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Fox recorded his first win of the season for the Flyboys, while Mason Turner opened the game and tossed a pair of innings for Greeneville. Derrick Rabb closed the game after tossing a pair of scoreless innings for the Flyboys. Reyes finished the night with three hits and three runs scored, while Tayler Aguilar and Chris Williams each added a pair of hits for the Flyboys.
