Firebirds Trade Overage Forward Jack Wismer to Kitchener
Flint, Mich. - The Flint Firebirds announced today that club has completed a trade with the Kitchener Rangers.
In the trade, Flint acquires a conditional fourth-round pick from Kitchener in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. In return, the Firebirds trade overage forward Jack Wismer to the Rangers.
Of note, OHL teams are currently permitted to carry four 'overage' (20 year old) players on their roster to begin the regular season, with a limit of three able to dress in a game lineup. Prior to the trade, the Firebirds had eight overage players on their roster eligible for the upcoming season.
"Jack has played a large role in the turnaround of our program over the past three years," said Flint Firebirds Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Barclay Branch. "With limited overage spots allowed in the OHL, we felt that this was the best decision for the Firebirds and for Jack's continued hockey development moving forward. We'd like to thank Jack for his contributions and wish him all the best."
Wismer, a native of Stoney Creek, Ont., finished sixth on the Firebirds roster following the 2019-20 season, recording 54 points (27G, 27A) and a plus-6 rating in 62 games played. Throughout his three years in Flint, he totaled 107 points (48G, 59A) in 197 games with the Firebirds. Wismer was originally selected by the Firebirds in the second-round (41st overall) of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection.
"I'd like to thank the Flint Firebirds organization for the past three years," said Wismer. "I am thankful for the opportunity to have played in front of great fans, live with an amazing billet (host) family and for all the great people I've met along the way in the organization."
Under the new timelines, OHL Training Camps are scheduled to commence on Saturday, January 23 in preparation for the 2020-21 Regular Season that will feature a 40-game schedule running from Thursday, February 4 through Saturday, May 8. Teams will play primarily against opponents in their geographic region in an effort to reduce travel in consideration of the health and safety of all players and staff. Details concerning the structure of team alignment will be made available upon release of the 2020-21 OHL Regular Season schedule.
