
Fire to Meet Milwaukee

CHICAGO, IL (Friday, April 12, 2002) - The Chicago Fire returns to Cardinal Stadium at North Central College to take on the Milwaukee Rampage of the A-League on Sunday, April 14 at 3:00 p.m. CT in Naperville, IL. The match will mark the third all-time between the affiliates, and the "Men in Red" will look to build on its 2-0-0 all-time record against the Rampage.
The teams last met on June 15, 2001 at the Milwaukee Cunty Sports Complex and the Fire downed the Rampage 3-1 on goals by Peter Nowak, Jesse Marsch, and Eric Wynalda. The lone goal for Milwaukee came from former Kansas City Wizards star Vitalis "Digital" Takawira. In 1999, the Fire defeated Milwaukee 2-0 on first half goals by Ritchie Kotschau and Roman Kosecki. The Rampage begins its 2002 A-League season on Friday, May 3 at the Indiana Blast in a battle of Fire affiliates. Milwaukee's roster again features Takawira with former Fire forward John Wolyniec, ex-Miami Fusion defender Jeff Bilyk, and former Chicago Fire Reserve midfielder Sean Reti.

Calling Eyre and Schulte With Chicago's three starting defenders out with injuries, the Fire has called upon A-League defenders Adam Eyre and Mark Schulte of the Minnesota Thunder for its exhibition match against Milwaukee. Eyre is a former member of the New England Revolution and competed in MLS in the 2000 season. The Santa Clara product was drafted in the fourth round of the 2000 MLS SuperDraft by the Revs and played in 10 total games, starting eight, in the regular season with three straight starts in the playoffs (all against Chicago) that year. The 6'1", 180 pound defender has yet to record a point at the MLS level and recently joined Minnesota for the 2002 campaign.
Schulte is entering his second season with the Thunder and has posted a goal and two assists in his time with the club. The 23-year-old Dayton product stands 6'3" and weighs 190 pounds. The defender was a fifth round selection by the Tampa Bay Mutiny in the 2000 MLS SuperDraft. He spent the 1999 season with the Twin Cities Tornado of the PDL where he was garnered with All-League defender honors and co-Defender of the Year award in leading the Tornado to a 14-2 record. Schulte will be wearing #26, while Eyre will don #27.
Misc.
Midfielder Jesse Marsch can become the first player in Fire's history to complete 10,000 min. played with the team. If he starts against the MetroStars on April 20 he will achieve this mark in the 78th minute.
Fire captain Peter Nowak played in his 100th career game for the Fire on Saturday, March 30 against DC United at RFK Stadium joining the "100 Club." Jesse Marsch, Zach Thornton, and C.J. Brown all reached the milestone in 2001... Marsch is the all-time team leader with 118 (of 126) games played. Fire forward Ante Razov currently sits at 94, while midfielder Chris Armas has totaled 93.
The Fire has scored in 19 straight MLS regular season games at home and has not been victimized by a home shutout since July 15, 2000, in a 0-0 draw with Tampa Bay.
