Rainiers Drop Second Straight To Bees, 3-2 Ian Miller (2x3) collects his eighth multi-hit game

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Tacoma Rainiers (61-63) dropped a back-and-forth affair with the Salt Lake Bees (63-61), 3-2, on Wednesday night at Smith's Ballpark.

Shortstop Taylor Motter (2x3, 2 RBI, BB) and left fielder Ian Miller (2x3, R, BB, SB) collected Tacoma's only multi-hit performances.

Starting pitcher Andrew Moore worked 4.0 innings for the Rainiers, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out one. He did not factor into the decision.

Salt Lake leapt out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the opening frame, courtesy of a solo home run from Michael Hermosillo.

The Rainiers responded in the top of the third inning with a run to tie the game at 1-1. Miller opened the frame with a single, moved to third on an errant pickoff throw, and came in to score on an RBI single up the middle from Motter.

The Bees wasted no time in retaking the lead, pushing a run across in the bottom of the third to move back out in front of the Rainiers at 2-1.

The back-and-forth affair continued in the top of the fifth, as the Rainiers tied the game back up at 2-2 with an RBI groundout from Motter, scoring designated hitter Tuffy Gosewisch from third.

Salt Lake collected the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning and held on for a 3-2 victory. Hermosillo lead off the inning with a single and came all the way around to score on a hit-and-run single to shallow center from Ramon Flores.

Ryne Harper (1.0 IP) and Shae Simmons (0.2 IP) both worked scoreless relief outings from the Tacoma bullpen. Ryan Garton (2.1 IP) allowed one run on one hit and struck out three, and was saddled with the loss.

Tacoma right-hander Tyler Cloyd (1-1, 6.21) will take the mound for the Rainiers and their series in Salt Lake marches on Thursday at 6:05 p.m. PT. The Bees have not yet named a starting pitcher.
